Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in a counselling session?

Each session is your space — somewhere safe and confidential to talk about what’s on your mind. We move at your pace, gently exploring what feels most important to you. There’s no pressure or judgment, just support.

How long are sessions and what do they cost?

Sessions are 50 minutes. My fee is $120, and I offer a free 15-minute phone call so we can see if we’re the right fit before you book. If cost is a concern, let’s talk — I try to keep counselling accessible. There are some differences to pricing with working with children which we can discuss further.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone’s different. Some people come for a few sessions, while others prefer ongoing support. We’ll figure out what feels right for you together.

Do you work online or in person?

I’m based on the beautiful Hibiscus Coast and also work with clients online across Aotearoa. Online sessions are held on a secure video platform, so you can join from the comfort of your own space.

What can counselling help with?

Counselling can help with things like anxiety, stress, grief, life changes, relationships, or simply feeling a bit stuck. You don’t need to be in crisis to reach out — sometimes it’s just about having someone to walk alongside you.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes, absolutely. What you share stays private, unless there’s a serious concern about safety (which I’d always discuss with you first). Your trust and privacy are really important to me.

What if I feel nervous about starting?

That’s totally okay - many people do. You’re welcome to start with a free phone chat to see how it feels. Counselling is a journey we take together, one step at a time.

If you have any other questions please feel free to email me and I will do my best to answer any queries you may have.

Frequently Asked Questions – Working with Children

How do I know if my child needs counselling?
You might notice changes in your child’s mood, behaviour, or confidence. Counselling can help when a child is feeling worried, withdrawn, or struggling with friendships, school, or big emotions.

What happens in a session?
Sessions are relaxed and guided by your child. We might use play, drawing, stories, or gentle conversation to help them express themselves and explore what’s going on in a way that feels comfortable.

How involved will I be as a parent?
You’re an important part of the process. I’ll check in with you regularly and may invite you into a session if it feels helpful. My goal is to support both your child and you in understanding what’s happening.

Are sessions confidential?
Yes, what your child shares is private. I explain this to children in a way they can understand. The only time I would share information is if I’m worried about their safety, and I would always talk with you about this first whenever possible.

How long are sessions and what do they cost?
Children’s sessions are sometimes shorter than adult sessions, depending on their focus and energy levels. A 30-minute session costs $60, and we’ll discuss what’s best for your child as we go.

What if my child doesn’t want to talk?
That’s okay — many children need time to feel comfortable. We can use creative and play-based activities that help them express feelings without needing to use words straight away.

How many sessions will my child need?
Every child is different. Some only need a few sessions to build confidence and understanding, while others benefit from longer-term support. We’ll decide together what feels right.
